Bladerunner (Film 1982) |
 |
The title comes from a book by Alan E Nourse, subsequently developed as a movie script by William Burroughs, which described the black market trade in medical supplies in a world where only sterilised humans can claim medical treatment.

Harrison Ford stars in this film which also features Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah. Ford plays police agent Rick Deckard, a trained replicant killer, who is commandeered to track down and destroy rogue replicant robots on the warpath. He combats the replicant leader Roy Batty, who, in truth, actually kind of gives in at the end. Instead of killing Deckard he instead chooses to voice a quote (see below) at the time of his 'expiration', leaving the viewer actually feeling quite sorry for the killer replicant. Deckard falls for the beautiful Rachael, played by Sean Young. However, does she hide a secret, even from herself? There was a Director's Cut released in 1992 of Bladerunner which featured the original ending championed by Ridley Scott rather than the 'happy' ending imposed by the studio. This film looks stunning even today with flying cars and fantastic haunting music from Vangelis.

Rutger Hauer stars as Roy Batty, a killer replicant robot who seeks more life from replicant makers, the Tyrell Corporation, and Daryl Hannah as Pris, a sex pleasure replicant. Rachael, who thinks she is human but is actually a replicant implanted with real human childhood memories. Oops, we've just given away the secret! A must-have movie for any true sci-fi fans and robot collecters.

Best film quote: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." - Roy Batty
